@gerowen I've known it as 550 cord also, but I've heard many references. I've heard Parachute Cord the most, though.

@LakeofGlass In the army I've always known it as 550 cord, because supposedly it will support 550 pounds on a single cord (guts and everything still inside). I've never tested its weight limit, but the stuff is useful as hell, and I've never been able to break one with my bare hands, and I've even used it in place of steel brackets before when erecting shelters and never had it offer to break on me.

@Ascen215 They're called survival bracelets because when you cut the paracord, the "guts" of it are several strands that come undone. You can take a single strand and use it for sewing, fishing -- whatever you need. So yes, it's literally a survival bracelet. The more elaborate the bracelet design, the more it eats up cord length. This means more cord on just one bracelet. :)
