  • @100fulallmusic : Well, she is providing a jazz face for opera, since that is now the style with which she sings everything.

  • Thanks for the post. I'm going to see Renee Fleming in Lucrezia Borgia in two weeks in SF. Can't wait! She was in the audience last night at "Heart of a Soldier". She's beautiful. Not to dis some of the commentors, but it's difficult to compare recordings to live performance, especially when the recording was intended for publication on a label and resale. Some recording artists really don't sound as good on the live stage in a full opera performance in a large American theater.

  • @100fulallmusic Your remarkable insight into my personality is as pointedly limited as your intellect.

  • @RVP57 Thanks for showing your true colors. Nice to see the person you are. I've heard those singers, btw, and many others. Yet, Fleming remains one of my favorites - as she is of so many others. Go figure.

  • @100fulallmusic I would tell you to kiss my ass but it wouldn't be worth the trouble. What I will tell you is to go and listen to some real singers, like Leontyne Price, Birgit Nilsson, Joan Sutherland, Beverly Sills, Marilyn Horne, Shirley Verret, Ghena Dimitrova or Gwyneth Jones, to name a few, and find out what real singing is all about. That tired bitch Fleming doesn't begin to come close. Oh, and PISS OFF.

  • @RVP57 Congratulations. You can thank the rest of us, and stars like Renee Fleming, for keeping the classical music industry viable so that opera snobs like you can continue to remind everyone how you know better.

What you should be doing is thanking Fleming for providing a face for opera to the general public. But, I know what you'll do instead is complain it's not someone else.

  • @100fulallmusic Actually a lot of well-informed people ARE stupid. She rose to fame with a beautiful voice, and I've heard her sing some things that were fantastic. Recently she has becomed mannered and lazy, yet because she established herself and had a vast publicity machine behind her, the Met chooses her over much finer singers like Ruth Ann Swenson. People will buy anything that will make them feel better or classier. It's the Il Divo phenomenon. And I'm PROUD to be an opera snob. There.

  • @RVP57 Wow. Hmmmm.... I wonder then why her tours sell out and her CDs are the best selling in the business for sopranos (except Bartoli)? And why she sings for Royals and state leaders all over the world, with the best orchestras and conductors? Or why the LOC came to her to help them improve? Or why the Proms in UK had her perform at the Last Night? A lot of really important and informed people must be pretty stupid.

Renee's problem is she's so popular, opera snobs can't stand it.

  • @RVP57 Yes,today her mannerisms and exaggerated singing is vulgar and a blasphemy to the high art of Opera.

  • @aly6230 they booed cause she sucks at bel canto roles..... italians know/love their opera and they dont take bad singing lightly..unlike here in the USA...even when the singer sucks in these roles, like renee flemming, they still praise them...but really she needs to stay away from bel canto....
