Sonora Pass on CA HWY 108. It's the second highest pass of the Sierra, and is north of Tioga Pass (the highest pass in the Sierra), which cuts through Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows. It is closed in winter just as Tioga Pass, Ebbetts Pass, and Monitor Pass are. Grades on Sonora Pass reach as steep as 26%. Elevation maxes out just over 9,600 feet.

I had to shut off the camera shortly after the top of Sonora Pass. There's so much more to it. I decided to bolt the camera to the rear plate facing back to try and take in some of the views toward 395. It had to be quick so I could pick up my brother from work in Modesto on time-- got there within five minutes.

The total trip started in Oakdale, up Carson Pass (HWY 88) to Minden, Nevada, to catch 395. I then went south on 395 through Topaz Lake and caught Sonora Pass a ways down. Apparently the Echo hit 415,000 miles on Sonora Pass during the video. When I shut it down the odometer read 415,004 miles. My fuel economy for the trip? A surprising 41mpg.
