I idly doodled this, and then I later decided to further it into a 2D composite, and then a 3D Model.

The 2D Images were created in Paint.NET, (except for the scanned sketch), and the 3D Model was created as follows:

1) Base polygons created in Google SketchUp
2) Ship assembled in ZModeler 2
3) Ship Textured in Google SketchUp
4) Vertices tweaked in ZModeler 2
5) Double-check in Google SketchUp
6) Render in Kerkythea
7) Composite Effects, if Applicable, in Paint.NET

  • You do realize theres no need for the "runways" on top as there is no gravity in space?

  • I always imagined this as being a dual-environment ship, capable of landing and thus being in a place where runways are necessary.

  • runways are too wide, any those textures make it look like a two car long road.

  • Perhaps; I didn't want a lot of dead space on top of the craft.

  • I really love that idea. :D

And I think it would actually work with Von-Neumann-probe-like spacecraft.

  • @1RadicalOne Males are more agile and can inject nanites that combine with the larger females nanites that are then ejected onto a satelite. The "egg" then consumes it and other passing satelites, converting them into parts and adapting their solar panels for power. Depending on certain memory files passed on by parents, the larval ship developes into a male or female, and the cycle continues.

    Noone steal my ideas!

  • Ah, no. That's a design quirk many of my designs have. For example, most of my addon BAT buildings for SimCity 4 have similar spires on their roofs.

    PS

Interesting hypothesis, but how can a machine have a gender?

  • the spikes are for competing with other ships over females?

  • Do you by any chance know its name? I've been looking everywhere - I took it off this video:
