Thomas the Tank Engine Fondant Cake

This is not only my first attempt and a fondant cake, but the first cake I've ever made from scratch. I was inspired by Debra Brown's Thomas cake while looking for ideas for my son's third birthday.

I wasn't able to get a copy of her book with step by step photo instructions, so through trial and error, and watching hours of other videos from Edna, Mayen, Lorraine McKay, and others, I was able to put up a pretty impressive first attempt, with only 5 days from idea to creation...

It may not be perfect, but my son loved it, and the lessons learned are priceless.

Impressive cake, especially since it's your first time. I love all the details. Is it difficult to work with fondant ? I am imagining like working with play doh..haha..is it not? How long did it take you to make the cake?
