It is a tough job to translate, especially in real-time.

Wish I am able to smell the flowers, there;s are none. No wind, all the grass all dead and dried up, nothing but fine dirt.. Its a drought.. There is no body of water, nothing but dried up all the way to the bottom.. Just see cracks.. ASL is not accessible for Deaf or Hearing people.. If you see water at a distance, it is an illusion! Crawling and never getting there.. No relief ahead.. ASL and Deaf Culture is dying.. There are no skilled interprters available for everybody. Postive Change yet?

Gotta agree with you on this one. I tried that many times before and it was tough! To this day, I still amaze on how they can just quickly come up with an explanation after heard it in english.
I disagree.. Most terps miss or drop out alot info. You wil be shocked, alot errors or missing when terps translate from ASL to spoken English. No one catch them and they get paid anyway. If we had a system to make sure they did translate correctly from reading ASL to voice into english or reverse. Terps be busted for sure.. Most terps use strong english sign labguage if translate voice to sign to avoid stopping, If terp use pure ASL. Best honest terps will ask hearng to stop in between often.

@Bunjer Man - you're always so negative? Yikes! It must be hard to be living like that. See my TITLE - "SKILLED" - meaning those who are able to do a fantastic job of translating not a poor job. Lighten up - smell a flower, see the wind blow across the grass, the waves (if you're lucky enough to live near a body of water)... smile, dear friend - SMILE!
