This video breaks down improvising over the standard blues progression. Features playing with the blues scale, "sweet notes" (chord tones), and the mixolydian scale. This video features the music of Aaron Noe, Trumpet Instructor at the University of Mary Washington (Fredericksburg, VA, www.umw.edu) and Director of Bands at King George High School (King George, VA). Aaron Noe is gigging jazz trumpet player who has performed with James Moody, Freddie Cole, the Jimmy Dorsey Big Band, and the Okayssions. He can also be heard on Keith Wesby's CDs "Once and Again" and "Before Dawn".

Aaron Noe holds degrees from Greensboro College (BS, Music Education) and Virginia Commonwealth University (MM, Music Education, jazz emphasis). Aaron Noe has studied trumpet and jazz with Rex Richardson, Roger Pemberton, Bert Ligon, Keith Amstutz, Anita Cirba, and Neil Clegg. Aaron Noe is a member of the International Trumpet Guild (ITG), the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA).

  • @dundy96 it's what you do to your trumpet when you REALLY like your trumpet. Just make sure you wipe it off afterwards.

  • @MsDomo99 Hey. I'm a student of Mr. Noe's. Man is he a great teacher. ( but busy ). Things to ask yourself. What is the Key signature? once you get that, find the sweet notes. If you're doing a total improvisation on the piece, really impress your teacher with good articulation. SLUR the upbeat, and TOUNGE the downbeat. ( doo da doo da doo da ). Really pronouncing the articulation into your horn makes it sound jazzier. Once you get the sweet notes, play around with different patterns! Good Luck!
