attempt to break the world speed sailing record (48.70 knots)during the Masters of speed on the 21st of nov., 2007. Antoine Albeau broke the french record on a windsurf with a 46,55 knots run (Alex Caizergues still has the french speed sailing record with 47.92 knots with a kite). Patrick Diethelm broke the production board record with a 44,77 knots run. Finian Maynard, who still owns the official outright world record did a 46,32 knots run.

Antoine Albeau bat le record de France catégorie planche à voile avec un run de 46.55 noeuds sur 500m (record de france toujours détenu par Alex Caizergues en kite surf avec 47.92 noeuds). Patrick Diethelm bat le record sur planche de production avec un run à 44.77 noeuds. L'actuel détenteur du record toutes catégories, Finian Maynard, réalise lui un run à 46.32 noeuds. Le record absolu est toujours de 48.70 noeuds.

how can they make anything faster than that; how can the heavy hydroptere be faster? The counterwieght ratio to the weight of the craft CANNOT be any more than something like this.

the ratio between sail size and drag is better thanks to the foils for the hydroptere.
Thanks to the foils hydroptere can sail in rather choppy conditions while windsurf need really flat water.
The drag in windsurf is pretty poor, but the windsurfer has no mechanical means to handle the sail...
In another hand, excepting the masters of speed there are not a lot of attemps to break the record in windsurf... neither brains to enhance the sailing conditions to break records.
