"I define me!" comes from ideas of people with developmental disabilities about what they wanted non-disabled folks to know about what it is like to have a disability. Disabled folks want everyone to know the kinds of labels people put on the disabled. "I Define Me" shows how some disabled folks feel about being labeled. This video has been sent to Canadian TV stations as a PSA (Public Service Announcement). Visit www.proudtobedisabled.com to find out more.

  • I love it. Though im not disabled like the person in this video, I know how it feels to be labeled because your not like other people.

  • Hi, thanks for taking the time to tell us how you feel about our video. Labelling is a tricky thing because often that helps people get the support they need. This PSA is about the negative side of labelling.

  • This is an AWESOME video...too many times sighted, hearing, walking, neurotypical people try to define us. This is an excellent look into how WE feel.

  • Thank you for your comments. The My Voice My Turn group is meeting tonight and one of the things we will talk about is how to get the PSA out there more.

  • What a powerful message. Well done. I especially like the sound of the wheels running over the labels!

  • Thanks, we started shooting the PSA by 8 in the am and finished by 9:30 that night. We had many more hours of video footage than we actually ended up using.

  • im glad that the video was made and that there were people willing to make it. everyone has the right to feel like they are valuable members in our society! keep up the good work!

  • Wow! As a person with a disability, advocate, and mentor, I can honestly tell you that this cip sends a very powerful message. FREE OUR PEOPLE!!!

  • excellent message. everyone should be happy to be who they are.

  • Thankyou nyprincess for sending this along.... strong message, with simplicity for all those simple minded people.

  • I just wanted you to know I used this video in my education class to teach about negative stereotypes and seeing everyone as a person who is unique, all in different ways. I taught never to just label a person disabled and take away all their other amazing qualities.
