From 1977, and his last Top 40 hit.

Lyrics:

It's late at night and we're all alone,
just the music on the radio.
No one's comin', no one's gonna telephone.
Just me and you and the lights down low.

CHORUS:
We're slow dancin', swayin' to the music.
slow dancin', just me and my girl.
Slow dancin', swayin' to the music.
no one else in the whole wide world,

Just you, girl.

And we just flow together when the lights are low,
Shadows dancin' all across the wall.
Music's playin' so soft and slow
The rest of the world's so far away and small, when...

repeat chorus

Hold me, oh hold me, no, never let me go.
And as we dance together in the dark,
So much love in this heart of mine.
Whisper to me, hold me tight.
You're the one I thought I'd never find,
And now...

Repeat chorus

  • I fell in love with my first boyfriend dancing to this song....its bittersweet to hear it, you know?

so very many years ago...a world that now exists only in my memories....

  • I know exactly what you mean. I have certain memories associated only with certain songs. Of course, this song is one of many. Any time I want to revisit a certain memory, all I have to do is play the song, and I'm there.

  • WELL DONE! LOVE THIS SONG & VID!

  • I was walking down some crowded tourist street in Las Vegas and there was Johnny Rivers playing with a small backing band. I insisted to my friend that we stop and listen. You know, Rivers sounded better there, live, years later, than on his old records. Really.

  • Oh, come on. I mean, romance is SO overrated. Who needs syrupy lyrics when you can have Lil Wayne say "I beat it like a cop! Rodney King, baby! Beat it like a cop!"

Just kidding, of course. If I can find a woman who can stand me for the rest of my life, this is on the reception playlist.

  • @centuryrox AMEN TO THAT .....

  • The guitar work of James Burton makes this song.
