"Against Coercion" produced by Video Press Of Tokyo in 2006 and distributed by the Labor Video Project shows the repression against Japanese teachers who refuse to sing and stand for the Kimigayo anthem. This anthem which pledges allegiance to the Japanese emperor and the Emperor system is being brought back into the schools by militarist politicians like Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara. Over 1,000 teachers have been fined, suspended and are threatened with being fired for refusing to stand and support this anthem. US teachers and civil rights activists are organizing to build support for their struggle and democratic rights. Also there is an online petition to support the teachers at:
