Angela

Since last year, I have been documenting the stories of the homeless. For the past months, I have traveled from coast-to-coast talking to people living in the streets, in shelters, in weekly-rate hotels, and under bridges.

Nearly one hundred interviews (and thousands of pairs of donated socks) later, my perspective on homelessness has changed dramatically. For me, Angela's story resonated. For you, it might be Willy or Drew or Donna's story that strikes a chord.

But regardless of how you get the message, I hope you get the message.

Homelessness is a complex problem. Although everyone has a different story and different reasons for being homeless, there are similarities in these stories. Although these videos are not often about solutions to homelessness, I hope one thing has become clear: if we want to solve homelessness, we need to stop focusing on band-aid solutions.

As advocates from coast to coast have screamed and shouted for years, it's okay to feed people in the park, but we have to focus on getting them out of the park and into safe, decent, and affordable housing.

@wd2001 I know. These people act like they're so perfect. How many of us turn to drinks and other unhealthy forms of outlets to escape from stress and pain. So imagine her stresses and pains. It's natural to want to find some form of escape, whether it's good or not, people become depserate, it's human. The lack of compassion and empathy in the world is alarming and very sad.

She's lost (misplaced) the ability to wish---dream. A broken spirit living in a broken society...

We need to help these people into getting a college education, back to work and on the road to success. I also pray every day too as I am unemployed with no hope. Thank God for my mother!

USA is sliding into the third world faster than I thought it would ,looks like a blitz to the Third world as fast as possible yet the bankers all eat caviar and sweets.

@Crossopterygii I don't know...I'm an atheist myself, but if religion keeps people alive like Angela, if it, for some reason, gives people hope, I say it's fine. I don't think Religion is the problem here (though it is a huge problem when it starts getting into Government and such, a problem when people don't act on what they believe in, like charity, and kindness, etc. And that is often the case.) I think the problem is people being selfish and not paying attention.
