  • Hi this is just a comment on ure nest boxes from experience on my part. The board uve put across the front of the nest boxes is not a good idea. The chickens will sleep there and when they sleep the deficate so the edge of ure nest boxes will fill with chicken poop. Just thought id let u know. I took them off and made sure there plenty of hay so the eggs dont fall out.... Thanx for reading dave

  • @dukecorso80 You and I have experienced the same learning experience.

  • ericladnier any special nest for broody hens?

  • @BLOODYCLQ I actually have a hen that is setting in one of the bottom nest boxes right now. I have seen chickens setting in the attic of a house once. They will hatch out and care for babies anywhere. I have built three chicken tractors with nest boxes to use for brooding, but as of yet have never used them for anything but seperating injured chickens from the crowd.

  • What bird is in the background? It sounds really nice

  • @TreeTrappin I hear that bird all the time and a man on a birding walk with me pointed it out once and told me what it was but he told me the names of a bunch of them that day. I don't know what it is. I just asked Momma who I though knew the calls of all the birds, but even she doesn't know.

  • Very nice.... You are spoiling them

  • You suspend the feeders-waterers above the floor for two reasons: To keep rodents out (actually, grown chickens will eat mice that get in), and to keep the chickens from kicking junk into the waterers. Hang them high enough so the hens can just reach and no lower.

  • @TreeTrappin It's a Cardinal or my dad called them a Redbird. They do have a pretty song.

  • Actually I take that back...it's a tufted titmouse singing!

  • That is a carolina wren singing in the background. Cool chicken coup!
