Pretty sure the keyboard player was 17 or 18 when he wrote the parts for this and 96 tears. Not that anyone should go easy on him because of his age or anything. I just think it's pretty funny that 45 years later, he's catching heat for his keyboard parts on a popular song. More popular than anything most of the people ripping on him via Youtube comments will ever make.

Smash Mouth's version is better.

@fgldnglbs if you want rock to be perfect, you should be on a classical sight.if i was a small group trying to make another hit i would follow the same pattern.look at the early Beatles and Stones.at least Quesion Mark wrote and performed their own tunes.it was probably easy for Smashmouth to change it because they only could make it 2010.

I think a good portion of the audience would have written this one off because of the cannibaized organ part, but Smashmouth saw the potential and practically gave it a rewrite.

Same organ riff as 96 tears. How lame.

Check out the version by The Colourfield

So much better than the Smash Mouth version.

Respond to this video... That is sorry.

there is so much more underground appeal in this version! forget about that nineties commercial junk by smash mouth!
My roomie, Tom Trruscott, was always singing this song back in 1967. He had a thing he did: he'd start to laugh and then he'd cap it off by snapping his fingers once (like, "ha, ha, ha, >snap<"). He was like our hometown Fonzie, sort of. Lots of kids thought he was 'way cool, back in the day. Today I look back and see that he was as corny as a bag of Fritos!

when smash mouth covered it, it sounded much less like 96 tears
