Feisty Felicity Merriman lives in a drastically changing world. Growing up as a ten-year-old in pre-Revolutionary Williamsburg, Virginia is no easy task, as she longs to be free from the social convention that restrict the conduct of women and girls, which even regulate the manner in which she rides horses! Felicity would rather go on adventures than learn to be a "proper" young woman. On a visit to the local tanner, Felicity encounters the brutal Jiggy Nye's beautiful Thoroughbred mare, who she names Penny because she believes that the horse isn't wild, but "independent," and her color resembles a "bright, copper penny." Each morning, Felicity visits Penny and eventually tames her. But turbulent times are ahead: Felicity's father and apprentice Ben take steps toward independence from England, which her grandfather and best friend and loyalist Elizabeth view as treason. When her mother becomes dangerously ill after childbirth, Felicity's courage is tested to the limit. How can she choose a side when she knows it involves being disloyal to someone she loves. In the end, Felicity must reconcile her own beliefs and those of her friends and loved ones, and encounters some unexpected surprises. Based on the American Girl series.

  • her mom is sooo pretty!

  • @jsgrab kids were mature back then. It's been since these latest generations that they have become more selfish and independent. Back then, kids did as they were told and they had to grow up before their adulthood

  • @jsgrab I agree, no ten year old nowadays would act that mature. However, from what I've read, (including the original Felicity books) children in days gone by were expected to act more maturely, to run a home and to work hard. Girls like Felicity were married and running their own households at very young ages. So more was expected of them, and they met those expectations.

  • @cody95377 yes I think the same!!!

  • @cody95377 i thought that when i first saw him. at one point he almost sounded the same...

  • @cody95377 um....... NO

  • does any one else think Ben looks like Zac efron ???

  • @Wolfgal525 I don't remember if it was confirmed in the books, but I think her actual name is Ann. 'Nan' was sometimes a nickname for 'Ann' back then.

  • @SarahandSasha its a show

  • So, I've been wondering why they picked such a pretty name for Felicity and then call her sister "Nan"...is her name Nancy? Still not very pretty.
