Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Don Giovanni, K 527

Deh, vieni alla finestra - No. 16, Canzonetta from Act II, Scene I of the Italian opera, Don Giovanni

Libretto : Lorenzo da Ponte

After Leporello has led Donna Elvira away, Don Giovanni serenades her chambermaid...

Deh, vieni alla finestra, o mio tesoro,
Deh, vieni a consolar il pianto mio.
Se neghi a me di dar qualche ristoro,
Davanti agli occhi tuoi morir vogl'io!

Tu ch'hai la bocca dolce più del miele,
Tu che il zucchero porti in mezzo al core!
Non esser, gioia mia, con me crudele!
Lasciati almen veder, mio bell'amore!

Translation:

O come to the window, beloved;
O come and dispel all my sorrow!
If you refuse me some solace,
I will die before you dear eyes.

Your lips are sweeter than honey,
your heart is sweetness itself:
then don't be cruel, my angel,
I beg for one glance, my beloved!

  • Cesare Siepi was born to sing this role, Mozart would approve.

  • @quinntissentialmusic alright, a year later and a half later, I gotta say that as a critic, I would give the award to Don Giovanni, but my personal favorite goes to Il Pagliacci

  • His voice is truly wonderful, but his acting matches it . If you have not already, try to see the DVD recording of Don Giovanni with Siepi as Giovanni, conducted by Furtwangler.

  • C'é poco da dire...è perfetto.Saluti

  • @65attila greaest italian opera is La Boheme in my opinion by Puccini

  • great thanks for this video, it helps mi to learn this piece, in two days I have to sing it in final exams so I have to learn it quick and this is good aid...

  • toll! the best!

  • splendida voce

  • His "fiato" is the best of XXth century's basses.

  • I think that's the best version I've heard. Such a rich voice and delicate high Es. Bravissimo!
