On September 26, 2009, Houston, TX local television station KPRC hosted Dr. Oz for a "Free Health Clinic Day." The free health day was held at the Reliant Center from 7:00 am 5:00 pm. The event was open to all anyone from 6 years old to age 65.
Dr. Oz was present at the event and it was taped by his television staff. Dr. Ozs goal was to help people with medical insurance get needed medical treatment.
On September 20, 2009, the Dallas Morning News reported that 49.5% of Texas residents have on the job health insurance based on a two-year average ending in 2008. According to the US Census Bureau this month, the national average is that 59% of Americans have health insurance.
One would think that the members of Congress that represent Texas would support a bill on health care reform that would provide affordable heath care for all of the citizens of Texas.
After waiting approximately 3 hours I left the event without seeing a doctor. I had the luxury of leaving because although I am living on a fixed income I have Medicare part A and B. I decided to leave and I will call and make several doctor appointments next week to address my health issues.

Hi Vera,
I'm so sorry you had to attend a free clinic, you deserve so much better. I thought Canadian health care was bad but after watching the coverage of these free clinics (which just make me want to burst into tears) I take it back. I so want you, and others like you to have a bill that reflects the actual needs of the American people. The people attending these free clinics are largely working citizens who STILL cannot afford care. It's shameful. Take care, and I hope you stay well.
