what's the difference between shotokan and shotokai ??
-
Shotokai is not based upon impact. Shotokan is.

If you are refering to the 'kime' of shotokan...the 'snap' of the punch? In shotokai the punch (and ki) flows through the opponant after the point of impact. This is shotokai's concept of kime. It doesnt 'snap' like that of other karate styles, which gives shotokai a very unique distinction. In addition, Shotokai is non-competition based, thus adhering to the principles of Gichen Funakoshi Sensei, unlike the shotokan of todat.. These are the principles of Shigeru Egami Sensei.

This is a rhetorical question I suppose, and my response would be, don't suppose you know anything about Shotokai unless you've studied in the school.

This is the same KICHO basic form of Taekwondo

Not surprising, considering Takwondo was based on Japanese Karate-do

That motion seemed almost like tai chi. Very fluid. Is this the best of shotokan? Im asking any who study since Im thinking of learning the katas.

Notice, this is Shotokai, not what is normally known as Shotokan (JKA and splinter organizations).
