17-year-old patient Mallory Hopper was about to have spine surgery when she made a connection with a nurse who became her mentor. Angela Strader, a nurse in the Crawford Spine Center at Cincinnati Children's, was teaching a class for kids who were preparing to have surgery. That's when the two bonded. Not only did they have the same surgery at the same age, but they even had the same surgeon, Dr. Alvin Crawford, one of the nation's foremost authorities on video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery and neurofibromatosis.

  • Of you who had the surgery How long have you been hospitalized?

What do you think is corset is robust for lower degrees of bias?

  • I Had 2 curves and it was at 70 degree angle before they did surgury.

  • I also have scoliosis. I was diagnosed with a a curve of 36.5. And after 9 months of wearing a brace, it's down to 21.9. Hopefully I don't have to get surgery! :)

  • I was 17 when I got this surgery, too... I had 56 degrees Cobb, which is now reduced to 16. I went to prom a few weeks after, too :)
