17-year-old patient Mallory Hopper was about to have spine surgery when she made a connection with a nurse who became her mentor. Angela Strader, a nurse in the Crawford Spine Center at Cincinnati Children's, was teaching a class for kids who were preparing to have surgery. That's when the two bonded. Not only did they have the same surgery at the same age, but they even had the same surgeon, Dr. Alvin Crawford, one of the nation's foremost authorities on video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery and neurofibromatosis.

I also have scoliosis. I was diagnosed with a a curve of 36.5. And after 9 months of wearing a brace, it's down to 21.9. Hopefully I don't have to get surgery! :)
