This is a cover of Sufjan Stevens' deeply moving song, "John Wayne Gacy, Jr." A few mistakes, and my voice could certainly be in better condition, but overall a pretty good performance, I think.

The video was recorded in quicktime pro using an Agent V4 webcam, and the audio was recording using a Sony ECM-MS907 running into my roommate's Presonus Firepod.

  • Well, I think it would be good to just add it to the video, but have one of those little pop up windows say "the performance is live, but the harmonies were recorded separately using _________________." or something to that effect. Since it's so dark, the split screen might not work for this one.

  • Sounds like a good idea, Benjamin. I'll try it out. Thanks!

  • Your voice reminds me of Andrew Bird a bit (whatta compliment).

    Great performance. Five/five.

  • Thanks very much, ViolentYearZero. I really appreciate the compliments.

  • I wonder if people would suspect the main performance wasn't live if there were any non-live elements there. I've seen a few videos where people have spliced live performances together (and produced a split-screen effect). Which of the three options (1: one performance w/ no harmony 2: adding extra audio 3: splicing video of several parts together in split-screen style) would you think would be best?

  • Thanks very much, Benjamin. I think I could actually add vocal harmonies by pulling the video into Logic and then merging the sound, but I'm not sure if that would take away from the realism of the performance.

  • Turned out really good :) Wish you could have sung the harmonies you wrote for it, though. Kinda hard when it's just you...
