Here's the list of the 5 songs available in the Music Pack 1:
Pitiful Scion
Pitch-Black Intrusion
An Empty Tome
Invitation of a Crazed Moon
The Hidden Curse

So, after players have beaten Harmony of Despair hundreds of times over on hard mode, after players have moved on through the first DLC map with Chapter 7, and of course paid money for picture packs... Konami decides to attack your wallet with yet more DLC. This time it's a pack of 5 tracks of background music for you to figure out which stage's music has gotten stale enough that would warrant a BGM swap. Are you able to resist the urge? Are you going to leave a comment stating you're upset with Konami and think everyone who buys this DLC is only feeding the machine? Are you going to hold out a bit longer, joke about the industry, laugh it up, and finally cave in?

The Music Pack 1 is $2 (160 MSP). There is quite a bit of nostalgia to be had. I bought the pack after I read Pitch-Black Intrusion was on the list and got a few more songs I recognized from previous titles. This video should help make up your mind whether it's worth it or not. I'm still trying to figure out which stage's BGM I want to swap with these. I'm still not tired of the old music, but I really like this new stuff.

  • Stuff like this may seem like a ripoff to some, but if it weren't for these "ripoffs," that random 240 points I have that never gets spent on anything because Microsoft only lets you buy points in $5+ increments would go totally unspent.

  • @SolarisParadox I've got 302 MSP left because I purchased some Bullet Witch DLC a long time ago that cost 21 points each. If you know any strange DLC that might fix that weird amount, let me hear it. =P I'd love to just zero it out at some point.

  • do you like chapter 7? i played HoD a ton over the summer. like 30 hours on soma alone. but when reach came out i stopped playing it, but wouldn't mind getting chapter 7 if it was good. and are the new characters good?

  • @tec006 Chapter 7 is a very hard thing to sell. It is $5 for a single map that contains different music, new enemies, a new boss, and also works in hard mode. It also a very large and confusing map when you play it for the first time. The map did not actually come with new characters like we were expecting either, which I'm sure we'll be nickel/dimed for also. It's good, but for the price they are asking, it's questionable.

  • IMO, I wouldn't use these for Boss themes, simply because the fights rarely would let you hear and enjoy the entire song.

"Pitiful Scion" sounds like the clock tower music from SotN, so I'd want to put it on stage 5.

"Pitch-Black Intrusion" for being Dawn of Sorrow music, I'd put as Stage 2...

"An Empty Tome" seems like it could go well with stage 4 or 7.

"Invitation of a Crazed Moon" sounds like it would work for stage 1, 4 or 6.

"The Hidden Curse" sounds like it would work with stage 5 or 7.

  • @francochan portrait of ruin is for DS... Not GBA -.-

  • I wound up getting this anyways. For the price of a coke, I get to have Pitch-Black Intrusion on Stage 2 and An Empty Tome on Stage 6, both songs from DS games I enjoyed very much. From what I can tell, these aren't just ripped from their original games- they're new versions that have to have been performed by -someone-. It's an inexpensive way to send my thanks to Konami for making an awesomely composed soundtrack to an online game of a series I've like for years. That's worth a soda or two~.

  • thanks for sharing those new songs with us

  • Fucking rip off, but love the music.

  • @Barricade umm.. i know ur comment is 11 months old, but just in case: this game is now out on the PSN, so if u didnt buy a 360.. then u can still play this on ur ps3.

  • Thanks for the help! Your two videos are great for people unsure of what their getting!

    In a nutshell,

    DLC Music Pack 1:

Pitiful Scion (from Symphony of the Night - PS1)

Pitch-Black Intrusion (from Dawn of Sorrow-DS mainly, though it appears thematically in other GBA/DS games)

An Empty Tome (from Castlevania: Judegment-Wii)

Invitation of a Crazed Moon (Portrait of Ruin-GBA)

The Hidden Curse (Portrait of Ruin-GBA)

  • @Testsubject909

    Huh. The more you know.

  • @SolarisParadox Wanna know the worst part?

XBLA is one of the worst places for the indie developers, what with their profit risking being cut down by 40% from their original 70% profit margin, meaning that they'd only get 30% of the price. Also the possible pricings are fixed due to how XBLA works. Addtionally they have to wait till they accumulate a profit of 500$ each QUARTER of a year before they see a single PENNY.

Yeah. XBLA, big ripoff. Plus Xbox can discount whatever they want anytime.

  • Castlevania had always great music and I hope it will hold long!

  • pitful scion would be good on chapter 5
