The announcer is dense.
The answer is no, you can't touch Gretzky. I forget his name, but it happened early in Wayne's Edmonton days, so player from another team grabbed Wayne and started kicking his ass. After the game you never saw that player again, they benched him and waived him and no one would claim him.
The unwritten rule for Gretzky, as it's to an extend with Crosby is "DO NOT TOUCH OUR BREAD AND BUTTER." The NHL is shitting fucking bricks about Crosby right now.
