Sugar Glider Barking

THE BEGINNING IS IN THE DARK
There is nothing wrong with your computer.

Leera is not much for barking at night, and when she dose, it is not usually for long. This night was different, but still the longest she has barked at any one time. Normally I would talk to her, but I wanted to get this on tape. Usually when I turn the light on she stops. That is why I started in the dark.

There are several reasons why they bark. The most common thought is they are board. This can be true, but is often not the case. More likely they are trying to call a mate, another glider, or their owner for attention or communication. All gliders are different just like humans. In the case of mine, she barks very little. But when she does, all I have to do is talk to her or make some noises like they do imitating another glider, and she stops.

Oh, a note to glider owners on this one:

If your glider wakes you up barking, getting up and giving your glider attention is not always the best thing to do. They learn quickly, and when they figure out how to get you out of bed for attention, they will do it more frequently. And you, the owner will get less and less sleep. It can get out of hand. Just keep in mind. They can be trained like any other pet. They are more intelligent than most people think they are.
