My mum once got me an audiotape of this when I was little and I found it very funny. I wonder what George was actually doing? My mum says picking his nose but I can't help wondering ............
So many comments here have missed the point. It's not laugh-out-loud funny, no. There's no punchline; no snappy one-liner.
Instead, it's an early study in what real comedy is about: OBSERVATION. Being able to recreate a familiar, everyman situation with acutely realistic observational powers - and a comic slant - is the basic humour principle of art imitating life.
You should be respecting Joyce Grenfell as a pioneer.
Couldn't agree more Oxfordruse. This comes from a time when you had to think about comedy. When it asked a little back from its audience if you were to appreciate it. Joyce Grenfell was an absolute star.
