ABOUT QUEER OF THE YEAR
There's only one contest fabulous enough to find the brightest star under the rainbow. That's right, Queer of the Year is back! Hosted annually by Tourisme Montréal, this 3rd edition runs from August 11-19, 2012 during Montréal PRIDE week.

The contest is open to LGBT folks and everyone in between, from all over the world. We're looking for participants with personality, talent, a healthy lifestyle, community spirit and sex appeal. Five finalists will be chosen but only one will earn enough public votes to be crowned Queer of the Year!

Tourisme Montréal, in collaboration with Air Canada and Hotel Le Germain, will fly the finalists to Montréal for an all-expenses-paid trip of challenges, adventure and high-performance fun worth C$15,000.

"Homosexuality is God's way of ensuring that the truly gifted are never burdened with children"

I think that one was pretty out of place

I think the whole point of appropriating "queer" is that, in fact, there is nothing wrong with being strange. Without strange, you get stagnant.

Sticks and stones children, sticks and stones. Arguing about semantics is a waste of time... don't you have something to do with yourself for real. Go do some work with homeless youth. Whatever they call themselves, many have been kicked out of their homes for being queer/gay/dykes/friends of dorothy/pansies/sodomites/fudge packers/fags.

You shouldn't appropriate slang and assert it as an official term.

"The whole point" is a stupid point. Do not appropriate a label and then tell people not to label you. It's not really hypocritical, it's just contradictory and the work of a complete fucking idiot (or idiots).

I've already unsubscribed from the account that lead me to this video, so I'll leave this debate at that. Do not change the meaning of "strange", call yourself "strange", and then say "DON'T LABEL US MEANIES."

But contextually it doesn't mean strange. That's the whole point. Being a sort of appropriated slang, the original meaning is at best passively acknowledged. I don't see an ounce of hypocrisy here.

No, I'm arguing the same thing.

Don't tell people they shouldn't label you if you're going to call YOURSELF strange. That makes you (the general "you") look like a complete idiot.
