The Looping Process demonstrated by describing a performance. This is a vocal loop delivered at a fierce pace. This was filmed at Coz and Beck's wedding on 14th Aug 2010. Before touring Ash crafted his non-improvisational loops very carefully, practising pieces 6 to 7 times more if they contained loops. However touring on the road in cars with limited space and no electricity meant he needed to develop the ability to work more improvisationally with many of his loops. Parts of this piece are improvised.

More people are using loop machines these days, and it's good to see people using them in very different ways. Ash is an intuitive looper, does not follow flashing lights and does not count. "You kick when it feels right."

Ash started using loop machines in 2005. He started with a Line 6 Delay Modeller, which lends itself to quick looping and short loops. The Boss machines can be a little cumbersome with short instant looping. Notice the need to double kick when defining the end of the loop and recording over the top (you can see this at 30 seconds). This only needs one kick on a Line 6 Delay Modeller. However the Boss RC20 is safer. It's very difficult to wipe out a loop by accident.
