I have crossed the bridges of Cé
It was there that it began
A song of times past
Speaks of a knight wounded
Of a rose on the road
And of a bodice unlaced
Of the castle of a duke insane
And of the swans in the moats
Of a meadow where
An eternal fiancée will dance
And I drank like a milk cold
The long lay of glories false
The Loire carries my thoughts
With the cars overturned
And the disarmed weapons
And the tears poorly rubbed away
O my France, o my abandoned one
I have crossed the bridges of Cé.

You see marquis on bicycles
You see pimps in kilts
You see snotty kids with veils
You see firemen burning their bobbles
You see words thrown at the garbage dump
You see words lifted to the bulwark
You see the feet of the children of Mary
You see the backs of cabaret singers
You see cars that run on a gas generator
You also see the hand-drawn carts
You see sailors whose gazes are obstructed by long noses
You see fool's gold of 18 karats
You see here what you see elsewhere
You see young, delinquent girls
You see guttersnipes, You see perverts
You see under the bridges pass the drowned people
You see unemployed merchants of shoes
You see the egg candlers bored to death
You see the true values decline
And flees the life at the six four two.
