Wisconsin & Southern's J2 (late-day Madison-Janesville freight) arrives at Stoughton, Wisconsin on a hot summer day with SD40-2 4007 and SD20 2054 coupled elephant style.

First the train is shown crossing Door Creek Road between Stoughton and McFarland. Then, after cutting the train off north of town, the light power heads downtown to collect some gondolas loaded with steel for Zalk Josephs, nearly creaming an idiot driver at Williams Drive. The crossing lights and bell were functioning, the horn was blowing, I don't know if this putz was on his/her cell phone or just had a death wish, but it would have delayed them all of ten seconds to wait for the light engines to clear.

After collecting the cars from the pass downtown (not shown), they shove back north to the Zalk Josephs spur. They have to make two seperate shoves into the spur to pull all the empties and spot all the incoming loads.

  • THtas not stoughton wisconsin >:L(

  • It sure is!

  • srry i forgot about dis part its by the storages places right?

  • The crossing where the near miss occurs is the one by the intersection of Page St. and Williams Drive.

  • Nice work, High.

    steady, tripod-mounted camera

If I caught such a violation on camera, I'd file a complaint and have the driver cited.

Then show the video in court for a conviction.

This moron placed YOU in danger of being hit by his debris.

Why no horn backing across street into business siding, but horn coming out?

  • Thanks...

I was more interested in finishing the shot of the locomotives, than whipping the camera around to get the license plate.

Horn wouldn't do much good from down the track and around the curve. The conductor hanging off the back can get off and flag down approaching cars if necessary, or radio the engineer to stop if something's obstructing the tracks.
