On October 26, 2009, 30 students in Dartmouth's
Science for Sustainable Systems
class
played the roles of negotiators at the December 2009
United Nations Climate
Summit in Copenhagen,
in three negotiating teams representing:

a. Affluent nations
(including USA, Canada, European Union, Japan, Australia)

b. Rapidly developing nations
(including China, India, Mexico, Brazil, Russia)

c. Less developed nations
(most of Africa, much of Latin America, some Asia,
island nations)

The C-ROADS climate simulation model was developed
by the Sustainability
Institute in collaboration with
MIT and Ventana Systems. C-ROADS and role-playing
exercises like this one at Dartmouth are being used
by governments, advisers and NGOs around
the world to come to grips with what will be
required to stabilize
the Earth's climate.
