This is Part 1 of training a rat who is a fear biter if they are young enough this should be pretty easy for older rats or rats who are having troble bonding with you I will be glad to give you a few extra tips if you email me at NikkiF1920@yahoo.com.

Shadow I got at a petsmart he was in a back room because he escaped and bit a worker when caught. When I picked him up to put him in the box to take home he bit me pretty good so if you are bringing home a known fear biter bring thick gloves. After three days of doing this with him and letting him explore he was ready for the second step of training.

Step 1
Pick 1 or 2 people to train the rat if there is more that want to bond with the rat or rats they can wait until hes adjusted.
Also find a quiet place where you can do training like in a bedroom on a bed. The baby voice is optional but a soft sweet voice is a must =).

Step 2
Get a blanket, towel, or even shirt and put your scent on it and the other person helping bonding. Put the blanket in there cage and let them have a day or two to settle into there new home.

Step 3
Once the rat is more comfortable take the blanket from the cage, use it to catch them, and wrap the rat up in it. Rats can only keep up the fear responce for 20 min then they have to calm down. Once they settle down you can start to unwrap them and let them explore.

Step 4
Do this at least 30 min everyday if you are worried they may try to run off and scared to pick them up keep gloves near by or on your hand/s.

Some more tips wash your hands really good before handling and do not feed treats through the bars of the cage. In stead open the cage and try to feed them treats or set it near them show them your a source of good things.

If you are comfortable with doing this everyday, the rat shows less signs of biting(rearing up on hind legs, cowering in the corner when you open the cage ect), and the rat exploring move on to my Training A Rat 2 vid =).
