This clip is actually two separate pieces of footage of the same stretch of road, and in both cases in the same order (the first 1:10 is the first section, the remaining footage is of a different day).......

The footage (in both cases) shows 2nd Circular Road in the Cantonments district of Accra. The intersection at the traffic lights is with Giffard Road, which the taxi travels onwards. North of the intersection the road is named Airport By-pass Road, and as the vehicle travels, there is a white brick wall which is part of the airport property, and in the later stages of the clip, I try to focus in on the buildings of Kotoka International Airport. Along this stretch of road, there is a lot of construction occuring - in 2007, when this footage was filmed, the office complex "Una Home" was completed and can be seen, but most of the other buildings in the area (which are now completed) were under construction. It is in this area that Accra's second major shopping mall has been constructed, as is the new Holiday Inn.

This stretch of road is busy at the time this is taken, towards peak hour traffic, but it is often seen as an alternative to Liberation Road, which it runs parallel to before meeting just south of Tetteh Quarshie Circle.

  • waaaaa look! This traffic never dies down. From cantonments heading east to the Accra mall area is even worse sometimes.

  • Well, around this area (Giffard Road/Airport Bypass Road), it is very busy at peak hour.....

The problem is the geography, as the airport has blocked the building of major roads east of Accra. So there is the one-laned coastal road, which is a nightmare, or Liberation Road & the Motorway, which is better, but bumper to bumper.

I wish they would just fix the coastal road into a dual laned affair so traffic can flow !

  • @Ghanapedia hi! I'd like some information no how to find the following address by googleearth 48 Radford State Cantonment, Airport residential, Accra-Ghana. Could you give me some advice? Also, do you know if there is a road called Kings rd in central Ghanna? thanks!

  • @SSofficerSS99 - You might want to email me direct, but I'm guessing you mean a housing estate called "Radford", presumably in Airport Residential. If so, I'm not familiar with it, need more details.

Re Kings Road - if you are referring to Accra, it's not a main road by the sound of it. If it's Accra, please try to specify a district, as "central Accra" is a collective of around a dozen suburbs.

Are you going to be deploying the 6th SS Panzer Army there or something ?

  • I LOVE GHANA WANT TO DIE THERE!

  • That will be a great idea is they fixed the "beach road" as it's called. It's a major project but it will benefit a lot of people. The Nkrumah motorway is still in good condition despite the years gone by. It's about time more roads were built like that in Ghana.
