What great memories! When I was a kid, ABC-TV and Jules Bergman WERE the space program. Intelligent, urbane and sophisticated... when Berman talked, I listened - and learned. Kudos to ABC and those great broadcasters: Bergman, Reynolds, Howard K. Smith, Peter Jennings. And thanks for posting these great videos!

@nickyp28 There is no will at all to do something daring. And of course now we as a country are nearly broke and have two wars going on,. But back in the 80's and 90's we could have afforded to take the next step in space but we didn't. From Nixon on our presidents haven't given a shit about space and now look where we are. With the shuttle gone we don't even have a manned vehicle to orbit the earth. It's embarrassing.

@dsfddsgh What about the Shuttle? Or the International Space Station? How about the Shuttle-Mir programme? The launch of Hubble? The launch of Magellan? The US has done quite a bit with the shuttle! Remember, Apollo only existed because of political will to beat the Soviets. Now, unfortunately, there is no political will.

How sad is it that we made it to the moon 41 years ago with antiquated technology but now we can't even make into earth orbit. I thought as a kid back in 1969, 1970 that we would have colonies on the Moon and even make it to Mars by the year 2000. Anything seemed possible back then. But thanks to our witless presidents democrat and republican over the last 40 years we haven't done shit in space since Apollo–Soyuz 35 years ago. It's a disgrace.

@auntbecky That's a problem because you create a thriving economy out of the private sector with tax cuts and other incentives which cause bussinesses to hire people! The way are government is creating social programs now you'll have more people feeding off of the system than putting into it! Do you not see that??
