Actually the Johnson was simpler and had fewer parts than the Garand. The problems with it were that it couldn't mount a bayonet (the added mass would have impaired its recoil operation), had some vertical shot dispersion rendering it improper for sniping, and was somehow difficult to clean and maintain. On the other side it had larger magazine capacity and the reloading system was simply superb.

love that gun, got a chance to fire one at a local range it had less kick than other 30-06 rifles ive fired it was fun loading a different style magazine and shot spot on at 200 yards wish i could get my own.

"That's it?" Obviously she's been spoiled on 30-round banana clips!

@RebelSince1776 There was one more drawback. They were a bit difficult to field strip, and a large number of small parts makes them easy to loss. Still, a great rifle.

you cant hear a ping in the middle of combat. It gets lost in all the other noises. the johnson was more complicated to produce adn had more parts. hence the standardization of the garand.

or put wood around the barrle
-
that would be okay if you never needed one but for some reason it was nice to have in close-quarter fighting in WWII
-
It was desperately used by the Marines in combat: Read "Battalion of the Damned - 1st Marine Paratroopers at Gavutu and Bloody Ridge, 1942 (James F. Christ)
