Saturday 6th November 2010 - To quote an elderly spectator - "I never thought I would see a Black Five in Platform 1 ever again!"
I thought I had picked a good spot for the climb out of Northampton after Ex-LMS 4-6-0 Black Five 45305 "Alderman AE Draper had stopped for twenty minutes for water on the "Capital Five" working from Tysley to Euston. Well I had until everybody else arrived! I was tempted to hard edit the video but 45305 just sounded too good leaving Platform 1. Why do rail fans not check whether people are taking video before whittering innanely about nothing in particular? Irritating! Still, the locomotive looked splendid in the searing sunlight!

  • Great shot NN - but remember those people set out that day to enjoy themselves seeing steam, just like you did, and naturally get excited - I know they are irritating but they're only being human! Hopefully they (and their annoying kids!) will go on to fill carriages so we can go on filming these trains! BTW (hope you don't mind a filming tip) Are you using wide angle setting when the loco passes? Because it makes these monsters look smaller than they are! Always use 1-1 as they pass.

  • @gainsbourg66 I agree with what your saying (within reason - have a look at my Bittern in Northampton video for just too much chatter!) - with regards to panning, you are quite right, the camera is 25mm equivalent on widest setting. I'll give your point some consideration next time I'm out. The advantage of 25mm equivalent is that camera wobble when hand held is minimised, but I will try the higher impact approach! Cheers! Mike

  • Excellent quality, I filmed at Brinklow

  • @sirhcsteam Thanks - yes I saw and enjoyed your video. Need to know the exactly location LOL! :-) Mike

  • Lovely shot, regarding chatter, do what Sean xxbec3509 does before it starts and bellow "silence in the gallery please"! It works- I have been standing next to him and was very impressed at Kings Cross with D1015 trip, trying to get the sound of the Maybachs.

  • @FonteDeiMarmi Thanks - I'll try that, though on this occassion the innane chatter rather started as the train went away. Mike
