  • Yes the A-League is a joke in terms of quality but I for one found the racial hatred and ethnic divides at NSL games completely disgusting. I feel for the fans of the Melbourne Knights and South Melbourne to see the demise of their teams but the A-League has opened up football to larger parts of the country. How can a predominantly-ethnic based team market itself to other cultures to Australia's masses? I won't mourn their loss that's for sure - as for Melbourne Heart - Fuck Off!!

Furthermore, one of the most recent MLS franchises is California based Chivas, who target the large Latino community.

Take a look at Barcelona and the rampant Catalan nationalism amongst their ranks. Take a look at the Old Firm derby and you will find Catholics vs Protestants and Irish nationalists vs British unionists. Take a look at Brisbane Roar with their Dutch heritage, colours, and symbol of a lion. Wellington Phoinex with their largely ethnic NZ supporter base

  • Screw the a-league, LONG LIVE THE NSL

  • @KroacijaZDS

1.Yes Bonnyrigg and Sydney Utd is a fixture that does involve ethnic tension. However this was never an NSL fixture.

    2. Yes, A minority of South and Knights fans may have used race based insults against each other.

Similarly, Wellington Phoenix are labelled as sheep f***ers. Barca cop shit about their Catalan background. Chivas USA cop shit about being Latino. The solution is not to expel these teams. Rather ban the minority of opposition supporters making racist comments.

  • The look on Ange's face is priceless.

  • @RealAustralia1 No joke i was at the trial, nah actually im joking i wasnt.

  • @SonyCamry no joke he got busted for armed robbery

  • @SpawnofChaos2010 I dont follow soccer much. Not the A League or the old NSL. I only got introduced to it because I went to watch my nephew play. That was a eye opener!! now I know why they say Aussie soccer was up the ethnic shit creek. Its a poor excuse to call ethnic fights about ethnic heritage "passion for soccer" when its put on the kids like it is. Its disgusting.

  • The NSL was fun but If we want football to grow in Australia the A-league is a better choice.

  • The A League shits on the old NSL.....I am so glad to tsee the CRO-A-C-YA, HE-LLAS, AND JUVE chants gone...As an Adelaide City fan (and not Italian) my mates and I made a flag with A Boxing Kangaroo and CITY written on it, and it was ripped down by a bunch of Italian blokes and taken from us..(we were 10 yrs old) I never went back to a game untill Adelaide United played Brisbane Strikers......and for once I felt like there was a team for ALL to support...that's what the A League has done
