The Waukee Area Arts Council took a busload of enthusiastic art lovers to the Waterloo Center for the Arts on March 28, 2009, to experience artist Steve Gerberich's exhibition, Springs, Sprockets & Pulleys: The Mechanical Sculptures of Steve Gerberich. Gerberich, a native of Waukee, accompanied the group and provided commentary on the bus ride and throughout the tour of the exhibit.

Constructed from old machine parts, kitchen utensils, pieces of furniture, lighting fixtures, medical supplies, toys and carnival figurines, Gerberich's work offers viewers a unique way to interact with contemporary sculpture, explore the principles of simple mechanical motion, or simply ponder the remarkable inventiveness of his art.
