From 1992 to 1996, The Virginia Theatre in Champaign IL was leased and operated by David and Sharon Wyper, who promoted it as "The Beautiful and Historic Virginia Theatre" and brought in the first professional touring theatre production (Phantom of the Opera) to perform there since 1977. By promoting "Gospel Night at the Virginia" and showcasing most nationally touring Christian and Gospel artists, the Wypers moved the 1600-seat Virginia from 2nd-run movies into the "100 top venues" list of PollStar Magazine.
