  • you know, i have a roommate who is bipolar but i thought he was doing cokecain at first! since he was chunking loads of "dip" or coffee around me. but as i come to realize he is actually bio polar! he sleeps 3 hours a day and is definitely psychotic! since he saying stuff of things in the past. so in question is it against the law to have him in a house with other roommates?

  • @rukus100821 Why would it be against the law? Is he hurting anyone?

  • What you describe is how many people act and feel under the influence of alcohol. Sounds like the same brain chemistry is being affected

  • @Azbill001 That's what bipolar disorder is - a malfunction of brain chemistry.

  • No, I said that DSM IV lists antisocial traits in its bipolar description. But the two disorders have significant cooccurence

  • @newtonchadMS Oh, you mean they occur a lot together? I'd never heard that. I'll have to check that out. I have read that Bipolar Disorder and OCD are often seen together. But I just wanted to be clear in that someone who is experiencing the symptoms of mania just because there are some in common with antisocial personality disorder, doesn't necessarily mean they have both disorders. There are some symptoms in common with ADHD too, but doesn't mean you have both.

  • @newtonchadMS It actually says APD under BPD? Having traits during mania that are also common in antisocial personality disorder, such as impulsivity or acting against the law, doesn't mean a person with bipolar disorder ALSO has antipersonality disorder. It means they have bipolar disorder and are manic, with manic symptoms. They are not the same. A person can have them both, I guess. Comorbidity. There is the issue of misdiagnosis with these symptoms.

  • @PennyAnn25 Yes, the DSM-IV lists APD traits as being significant during the manic phases. If left untreated, then the person risks lifelong noncompliance with medications and being held liable for criminal charges. Criminal charges usually surround lewdness acts, financial crimes, and rages resuting in domestic violence during episodes. My M.D. in this field stated that there is a large co-occurence between BD and APD. My ex certainly had them!

  • @newtonchadMS I haven't heard of a common co-occurence between bipolar and sociopathy. I'll have to check that out.

  • Tell me about it! I am still healing from the horrible experience. When I learned about the co-occurence between bipolar and sociopathy, I realized she was both! She admitted she knew the whole damn time what type of bipolar she was. And, she manipulated her way through with deceit and lies while disregarding the rights of thers.
