This Is the third part in my series on competition heeling. This section involves the steps I use to remove the board used for targeting in parts 1 and 2.
The "Finding The Leg" exercise is borrowed from Ivan Balabanov, With the major difference being that I use a food lure rather than leash pressure to teach the exercise.

  • You are my hero of the week.

  • My dog understands heel position and stays in it when I take a few steps or turn, but when I really start walking, even if it's not fast, he always lags a step or two behind me. We've been working on it consistently for months, and I can't figure out how to fix this. Any tips?

  • is it too much to do all three in one day? like will it be too much for the dog, my dog has a good heel but not like that, we are beginner novice in 4h and got reserve champion, but if i heel like this, i will be grand champion!

  • Very nice series, with good progression from stationary positions to walking method, an without a leash! I had a very hard time. I had an old Tom Rose tape, and it was good for its time, but it was nothing like this approach. Not to criticize, but I spit food from the mouth and it never worked quiet right. I also gave a hard leash correction for the dog looking away, and I taught a "watch me" command, to watch face, before motion and I introduced motion slowly, first 3 steps, then 5 steps

  • nice series, would you show us the finish of competition heeling without food or toy?

  • Great series with clear explanation of the progression from targeting the box to a moving heel. I could never figure out how on earth to teach this (having never trained it before) and after a day's attempt, my Golden mix is pivoting his heart out and will certainly improve with time. Thanks for posting!
