This is an industrial building very near to the town centre (as shown in video).

I couldn't find out much about the building's history, but it must date from the 1950s, or even before? - look at the wood paneling above the door at 3:58, any guesses at the building's age?

The building has 4 floors (G, 1 - 4), and has two gated lifts (slam-shut doors). These are at either end of the building.
The one at the front was being loaded up with wood at the time by a guy with a van in the loading bay, so I could only ride it. Actually this loading bay is huge, and has a raised 'dock'.
The lift at the back is the one that I used. When I returned to the ground the outer doors were opened by a guy that was waiting to go up!

The lifts are deep, but the ceiling height is low. By the look of the Car Operating Panel, these are probably not the originals, but the call buttons on the landings may be. They are also very dark with totally inadequate lighting. As these gated lifts are the only lifts in the building, the occupants must have to use them day-to-day to get to their businesses, or walk!

I had to use the light on my cameraphone AND boost up the video levels in the editing software.
The corridors are dark, creepy (notice the fickering fluorescent tube lamp at 4:04!) and there are some unused sinks in the corridors at each end. This is a creepy building which is still in use. Wouldn't want to pay much money to rent out one of these units! There must be plans to demolish this building, but it would be a shame, as buildings like this that are still occupied are rare these days.

Interesting building though, and well worth exploring!

  • Very interesting video. Surpising that the lifts still work.

You know what kind of building creeps the living shit outta me?

    Circle Windows.

And I don't mean a few, I mean a huge building with ONLY those kinds of windows. Just peering down at you.

  • @super58173 This is a very creepy building, and I wonder how much longer it will be here. Very interesting though. I might go back someday soon with a better quality camera.

  • amazing lifts! great video! i always love the way your videos are so long and give you full info of the area! That building looks like a very derelict car park looking office building

  • @joeyollie123 I'm going to go back there soon and film it again with a bettery quality camera. I will film where the lift motor room is (it had a padlock on it last time, hope I get lucky and find it unlocked!).

Thanks for the comment :) I always try and make them as interesting as possible.

  • Interesting video, interesting building!. Never seen one of these old sixties buildings that wasn't flats or offices, it still looks busy which is probably why it's still here today, wonder how long for though...

  • I work here... there are all sorts of different companies occupying the units; metal fabricators, upholsterers, caterers, furniture restoration... we design and make bespoke furniture, so we have a large unit full of machines, and another for dispatch and the office. We're on the fourth floor but we really only use the lifts for taking furniture down to the loading bay.

  • i rember this building. when i was a kid a freind of the family had space there and was used for storage other than that i have no clue what else it was used for

  • @mrmattandmrchay - Right, but is it still even in use? And I take it that it's creepy at night, since this was shot in daylight.

  • We have two big gated lifts just like that where I work. They're used for moving goods, strictly no passengers these days. They date from 1973, when the building was constructed.
