Tom Langshaw talks to Rowan Kunz from Study TV about English essay writing tips, and how to construct an essay, particularly focusing on developing a thesis. Tom uses the text Hamlet, by Shakespeare as a case study.

Tom and Rowan discuss:

- How to develop your thesis based on your own personal response to the text
- The importance of understanding the wider context of the text in developing your thesis
- How to construct your essay, and structures/scaffolds you can use
- Importance of integrating texts and ideas to develop sophistication

Tom completed his Higher School Certificate (HSC) in NSW (2009), where he achieved an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) of 99.75, placing him in the Top 130 out of 66,000 students in the state.

Tom also achieved a number of state rankings including 8th in English Extension 2 out of 2,500 students, as well as ranking 6th in Modern History/10,500 students. Tom is currently studying a Bachelor of Media & Communications at the University of Sydney.
