  • What an incredible filly Dahlia was...a true legend. She THUMPED the boys many times, and relished the chance to do so.

    Many thanks for posting this!

  • Indeed a great filly and an exceptional broodmare as well which is not always the case with high class race mares. Many thanks for the Man O'War.

  • French filly? She was born in the US and owned American Nelson Bunker Hunt. While she was based overseas for much of her career she started and finished her career in the US.

  • She was amazing. One of the best ever.

  • Absolutely marvellous filly! She obliterated Rhinegold and company here . Rhinegold would frank the form of this race later in the year by triumphing in the Prix de l'arc de Triomphe

  • The fillies are still at a disadvantage. Though when a really good French filly comes along they are usually rested from early summer, and turn out fresh in the autumn. There is a long list of Arc de Triomphe winners with this MO.

    My favorite filly was another french girl called Pawneese who won the King George in 1976 beating what I think was one of the strongest fields.

  • Could you Europeans give me some info on 3-yr-old fillies who have beaten older males? I remember Dahlia doing it at Laurel here in the

    U.S. & Miesque at a mile, in the Breeders Cup.

    Much is being made of Rachel Alexandra beat-

    ing 3-yr-old colts 2X this yr & older males once;

    she's the best American filly I've seen, as good

    or better than Ruffian. We had not had a 3-yr-

    old f. beat older males in a route race on dirt for 60+ yrs; several did it in the 1st half of 20th c. Your girls do more.

  • How easy was that 1974 win!

  • a rolss royce

  • You have to give her great credit for coming out of the 1975 King George and winning at York. 'The race of the century' virtually finished Grundy and Bustino, but Dahlia also had a hard race in third, I believe the first five home all broke the track record.

  • In 1973 Dahlia had just one week earlier triumphed in the Irish Oaks. She was ,indeed,a wonderful filly. Allez France, though, always seemed to get the better of her in most of their encounters.

  • one of the many good horses of nelson bunker hunt.
