However I would like to suggest that your proposition "it's not the USA's policies... it's Islams policies" suffers from the same "either/or" fallacy that underpins the classic "nature vs. nurture" orientation in, say, evolutionary theory; a framework that's certainly now understood to be a misguided approach to solving questions.

I am sure Christians, as I am one, would take up arms to defend one self from persecution, exile from one's home, or revocation of one's liberty, as I would definitely defend my family, beliefs, and constitution. I have read a lot of history, and there is just as much animosity between say the Greeks and the Zoroastrian Persians, or the Romans and the Persians/Arabs. We are speaking of culture clashes, enslavement, and genocide long before Christianity or Islam came to the scene. Each time there were wars, they were almost always backed by rich nobles who wanted more territory...kind of like today.  Even the Barbary Pirates felt the same with a rich noble twisting the Qur'an to justify his crusade.
