Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the emergence of parasites, along the Thai-Cambodia border, that are resistant to the medicine artemisinin and could seriously undermine global malaria control. The recent shift from drugs that were failing to the highly effective artemisinin-based combination therapies allowed great progress in fighting malaria, one of the world's major killers.

  • Which government?? The US? They have higher priorities right now, and the African can't afford it. I'm interested in how they attempting to get rid of this new resistant strain?

  • Put government money into R&D even though there's no monetary incentive to cure poor people. The pharmaceutical industry will watch from the sideline.
