Fugitive directors of Gwalior chit fund firms remain untraced

Gwalior, July 2 (PTI) Even three days after the arrest warrants were issued by a local court against 98 directors of 33 chit fund companies on the charges of fraud, the accused are yet to be arrested, official sources said today.The district administration in the last few months raided the premises of the 33 chit fund companies in Gwalior city limits and sealed properties worth over Rs 300 crore, however, besides three junior executives of these firms, no director has been traced so far, they said.The police had in the recent past conducted raids at several places in Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, after the warrants were issued, but failed to nab even a single director of these firms which borrowed huge amounts of money from the common people on pretext of doubling them, the sources added.These companies did not secure mandatory permission from the Reserve Bank of India for carrying out the business, they said, adding that the raids were conducted after the local people, who had invested money in the firms, filed complaints with the Gwalior district administration.The investigations have so far revealed that these firms have their network spread across 84 districts of 11 states in the country.Gwalior Superintendent of Police (SP) Makrand Deoskar has said that a reward of Rs 2000 was announced behind each singl director for anyone giving information about them.
