How to make your own tahini for use as a sauce for falafels, a dip for veges, to roll in lettuce leaves, spread on raw crackers, or as a base for raw hummus or halvah.
Soak 1 c. sesame seeds in water for at least 40 minutes. Blend in blender 'til creamy. Add water or a little olive/sesame oil a little at a time as you scrape down the sides of the blender and blend some more.
This is your tahini!
To make it into a sauce/spread:

Add one lemon, whole, or the juice of, plus
2 Tab. red raw miso
1-2 cloves garlic
This is your sauce!

To make it into a dressing, add 1 T. apple cider vinegar and 1/2 water.
To make it into hummus, blend with 2 peeled zucchini! Enjoy!

To make it into halvah, use the original sesame seeds and water only, and add 2 T. raw honey. Shape into balls. Add coconut, raisins, carob, maple syrup if desired.

  • I wonder if it's necessary to soak the sesame seeds first, or if you could grind just the seeds down into a paste (?) with nothing else added. Probably with a powerful blender like a Vitamix it could be done...

  • @bg11215 Hi! The soaking purpose is to open the seed so it can germinate, increasing the lifeforce of the food exponentially! "Open, Sesame!" But I have ground the seeds first, even in a coffee grinder, and it works!

  • I really do have to try this ~ I've never made tahini before. Thanks Dorothy ~ as always, a great video!!

    Happy Holidays,
