The UK tax code is one of the longest in the world - so long, in fact, that it would take Steve Woodmore, the world's fastest speaker, over 5 days straight to get through it all.
Since 1997 Tolley's Tax Guide, the bible of UK tax legislation, has doubled in length to over 11,000 pages.
Even the individual guides for Income Tax, Corporation Tax and Capital Gains Tax are now longer than War & Peace.
Longer guides reflect the growing burden and complexity of UK tax legislation. This has serious effects on individuals and businesses and creates a greater risk of administrative errors.
