Kenya will require an annual investment of over 25 billion shillings in irrigation to enable the country move away from its high dependence on rain fed and subsistence farming. According to Agriculture Permanent Secretary Dr. Romano Kiome so far only 10% of land is under irrigation with 5,000 out of the potential 1.5 million acres of land under crop irrigation.   • 100 million acres, will be 25bn. They estimate at abt 250k per acre for 5 yrs, thts 50k per year which actually is quite reasonable.

  • KSh 25billion per year to irrigate 1million acres?

    Better buy food from elsewhere - it will be cheaper.
