This video is a quick tutorial on sizing images in photoshop with respect to pixel depth, dots per inch, and printable size. This is a take 2 on an earlier video shot at a better resolution with enlarged menus for better readability. Not perfect, but good enough for now!

  • Jason, there are some physical laws we're dealing with first of all. So, a picture you download from the web that is 640 x 480 at 72 dpi is not going to print on a 300 dpi printer at anything close to the size you see it on screen. If you mess with that relationship, then you're doing some sort of scaling, and when you scale you either throw pixels away or you add pixels. There is some smartness in the various algorithms, but what can't be done is to somehow sample what isn't there.

  • Please tell me if you can "drag" the image to a bigger size.. like in paint? i cba counting pixels etc.. i just want a image to fill a gap in my photo without knowing how wide and high that hole is in pixels, click-adjust image to hole-done?

  • @musicplayah nej, du kan inte i Photoshop. Du måste använder en metod som jag förklarade.

    Lyka till! Don

  • does anybody here know how to resize an image to 4000x4000 because i am trying to upload pics to a site but its not working

  • @ZENGO366 4000x4000 what, pixels, inches? Either way, sounds too big for the web.

  • So quick question, if i have an image(x) and i put that image(x) over another image(y), and the image(x) becomes larger, how do i resize image(x) so its not covering up image(y)? can i use this method?

  • If you have two images and you want to size them so they line up, you just need to make sure both images have the same DPI and are then sized in the same way. And yes, what I said in this video ought to be of use in making that happen.

  • thank you very much this was very helpful.

  • how can i start a new document in order to print a design with high resolution size of 48"x60" (means large file) without losing the resolution? and how can i save it without taking so much of my computer memory?

    can you help me please??

  • what version of photoshop you have? is it CS2 or CS3 cause ihave photoshop cs3

  • Great tutorial, thank you

  • thanks that was really helpful!

  • 4 minute video on resizing an image are you f***ing kidding me?

  • Thanks for the video, this is my weak point, this helped.

  • HELP!!!

When you increase the resolution, dose that add more pixels to the image and make it sharper? I am a artist using photoshop to create narratives, but the images I found are small and will pixelate when I blow them up to print. I need them to be sharp and detailed as possible. If changing the resolution doesn't fix this problem do you know a better way?

LOOKING for a better way to increase the pixels so that I can enlarge the picture and keep the details / clarity!
