According to the site pokemopolis, Ivy's assistants were all butch lesbian, and Ivy herself was hypersexual and heavily into S&M, and poor Brock, looking only for a normal girlfriend, is now Brock is scarred for life whenever Ivy's name is mentioned.
To me, this seems far more likely than any other explanation.
